Lakelands Lifeline
In May of 2007, Mrs. Dolores Scott, Director, Hold
Out the Lifeline: A Mission To Families accepted an invitation from Rev. Fred M.
Armfield, Pastor of Little Zion A.M.E. Church, Greenwood, SC to present the Lay
Health Advocacy Process to the Greenwood Community in the hopes of organizing an
Hold Out the Lifeline team in the area.
Several Churches and Civic Organizations were
represented at the initial meeting, and plans were made to forge ahead with the
organization. Temporarily adopting the name Hold Out the Lifeline: Greenwood
Mission to Families, the Steering Committee began to meet over the next few
months to slowly gain perspective on the need for help in Greenwood and
surrounding Counties.
On August 6, 2007, the Steering Committee
officially adopted the name: Lakelands Lifeline. This name expresses the
organization's desire to offer help in Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick,
Saluda and Edgefield counties, because what we do in the Lakelands Region can
affect the lives of people everywhere. Our mission is “Empowering people to live
healthier, happier, and productive lives through education, prevention, and
community responsibility” Help us let people
know that there is help. Help us to help your neighbors, your friends, your
co-workers, your family.
